The Easiest Winged Eye

Winged eyes are my favorite

Do you love a winged eye?  If you know me, you know I have a deep and abiding love for a classic black winged eye. When my husband and I started dating, more than once he would complement my eyeliner.  Pointed toe, high heel pumps and a classic black winged eye are how I won that guy over, I tell you.  Good thing he also likes my sneakers and ‘I stand for a living’ orthopedic shoes.   While the pumps may have gone out the window – I will never quit my black liquid liner.   I have blueish grey eyes and they really are my best facial feature.  My daddy was kind enough to pass on long lashes, but I also have a real round face…. always have – even when I weighed 100 pounds less. I learned early on that if I could play up my eyes, it brought attention to the features I wanted focused on, they were just too busy complimenting my expertly drawn eye.  Winged liner in classic black is the only way to go for me, I have no space in my heart for the navy, purple, and emerald ones that seem to be moving up the ranks these days.  As Patrick Henry would say, give me a classically lined eye or give me death (or something like that). When done right, it somehow carries retro, dramatic, and coquettish vibes while not being too much.  I love trends, but I think it’s important to balance them as we age.  I’m 37, the baby of the squad (but don’t tell them I told you that – they might reveal that I’m lying).  At 37, a hot pink winged liner will look like I’m trying too hard to stay relevant and will in turn, only make me look older.  This is one of those ‘stay in your lane’ moments for me.  That said, if liner has never been in your lane – pass the slow car on the right and come with me on a journey to the easiest liner you will ever do.

For me, the best liners are felt tip marker types.  Some will be wider; some will be narrower.  Find the one you love.  For me, my favorite is Araceli, their Ojos Perfectos Liquid Liner.  I prefer a long and narrow felt tip, and this one fits the bill.  That said, I have tried so many.  Loreal’s Master Precise is a great drugstore option, and Ulta’s store brand is great as well.

Read these instructions below and learn the easiest winged eye method around and catch me on Instagram tomorrow morning for a live video (or check the highlights if you’re reading after the fact)!

Step one:

Holding your eyeliner pen with the tip PARALELL to your lash line, start near the center of your eye as you place the length of the felt tip against your lash line.  Work into the center of your eye then out to the outside corner of your eye as you lightly touch your lash line with the length of the felt tip.

continue tapping against your last line until you’ve worked your way just short of your tear duct. Then, do the same all the way to your outer lash line.

Step two;

Hold your eyeliner pen next to the round of your nostril and tilt the pen out until it creates a line from your nose to the corner of your eye.  This will create the correct dimension for your facial features and determine where your wing should be.  When this is done, gently tap your felt tip down at this point next to your eye, like a stamp to create the shape and boundaries of your wing.

At this point, you’ll have what looks just short of a 90 degree angle from your wing to your lash line

Step three;

Draw a small triangle in the corner of your eye between your lash line and your wing line to create a soft transition between the two for a sloped line.

your triangle should connect the two angles and create a sloped shape

Voila! All done! Now, go pull a fuse from the breaker box so you have to get taken out to dinner!

Dramatic, without looking like you tried too hard!
